Google PH Safer Internet Day 2025

Google Philippines' Safer Internet Day event held last February 11, 2005 was a resounding success, bringing together technology, community, and education to promote a safer online experience. Content creators and members of the media were able to learn more about Google’s two-prong approach of Programs and Products to combat the dangers of fraud and other online threats. The introduction of new features and resources highlight Google's commitment to fostering a secure and informed online community in the Philippines.

Product: Enhanced Google Play Protect

Google's latest feature, Enhanced Google Play Protect, has made a remarkable impact by blocking over 3.2 million high-risk install attempts in the Philippines. This initiative aims to prevent the installation of potentially harmful apps from unofficial sources, thereby safeguarding users' devices and personal data. Google is stepping in to protect users and devices from harmful APK files and third-party apps.

Program: Collaborations with Local Influencers

To amplify its message, Google partners up with various local content creators. EduCreator Coach Lyqa Maravilla is featured for this year’s #SaInternetIngat campaign, and her fun and informative video with Google expert Norman Ng debunks cybersecurity myths to spread awareness about online safety. Prior to this, a creative Shorts video from sand artist Monica Regalario-Cacatian and the advocacy song “Mag-Ingat” from popular indie folk band Ben&Ben also helped create buzz about internet safety. These collaborations have been instrumental in reaching a wider audience and fostering a culture of digital responsibility.

Program: Ilocano-Language Media Literacy Publication

Google introduced an Ilocano-language version of its #YOUTHink media literacy publication in partnership with canvas.ph, catering to the diverse linguistic landscape of the Philippines. This effort ensures that more Filipinos have access to valuable information on media literacy and safe internet practices.

Stay tuned for more updates from our tech nerds about initiatives from Google Philippines as they continue to champion online safety and digital literacy.
